MSC Dytran 2024.2 Release Highlights
Vegter models
Anisotropy in sheet metals, due to the crystallographic texture of the material, plays an important role in forming processes such as rolling, as it creates a preferential direction for strength and plasticity. This behaviour should be accounted for to get a realistic strain distribution, correct thinning and formability, and precise spring back simulations. Two new Vegter material models, VEGTR06 and VEGTR17, remove limitations of the BARLT89 and SHEETMAT models and avoid complex parameter extraction from experimental data. Introduced in 1996, the Vegter yield function (Vegter-2006) incorporates experimental data from multi-axial tests directly. This yield function is built upon data obtained from shear tests (SH), uni-axial tests (UN), plane strain tests (PS), and equibiaxial tests (BI).

With the Vegter-2017 formulation, a new method is proposed to directly derive stress factors from basic mechanical properties, enabling to accurately predict biaxial, plane strain and shear points. The main advantage of this method is that solely uses tensile test data measured at angles of 0°, 45° and 90° to the rolling direction.

New MATEX subroutine
Although Dytran already supports many types of user subroutines (including composite material, equation of state, yield user subroutines) it does not include typical Lagrangian user material subroutines. MATEX is the new user material subroutine dedicated to hexahedron Lagrangian elements, allowing you to code any material behaviour if it is not available in the current material model library. Please note that MATEX is supported only for Lagrangian hexahedral elements. To validate the implementation, various existing Dytran material models have been replicated through this new MATEX subroutine.

MSC Dytranis a three-dimensional analysis code for analyzing the dynamic, nonlinear behavior of solid components, structures, and fluids. It uses explicit time integration and incorporates features that simulate a wide range of material and geometric nonlinearity. It is particularly suitable for analyzing short, transient dynamic events that involve large deformations, a high degree of nonlinearity, and interactions between fluids and structures.
